A Brief History
Snowmass Chapel was first envisioned in 1967, but it was not until 1980 that plans for the Chapel were made. In 1982 Jim Chaffin, Jr. and Jim Light donated the land that would make the dream for a chapel a reality.

On March 2, 1987, The Snowmass Chapel and Community Center was officially designated and on November 27, 1988, our building of worship was dedicated at a Thanksgiving service. As the Chapel continued to grow, in 1998 a new building was completed that houses our offices, the counseling center, and is the site for numerous community meetings and educational programs.

Our Chaplain Emeritus, Dr. Edgell F. Pyles, was called to serve as the Chapel’s first Senior Chaplain. Edgell faithfully served in this capacity from 1988 until his retirement in the summer of 2009.
