An Evening with Clara Schumann

On March 5th, 2017, Snowmass Chapel will present a musical and dramatic performance by Czech pianist Karolina Syrovatkova.  Dr. Syrovatkova, who has a background in acting, will appear as Clara Schumann, in The Woman in the Middle: An Evening with Clara Schumann.  Clara Schumann, one of the finest pianists of the 19th century and a distinguished composer in her own right, was also the love of the life of her husband Robert, and almost certainly (after Robert had succumbed to madness) the love of the life of Brahms as well, and her love stories with these two men are in a way as beautiful as the music they inspired.  Dr. Syrovatkova will share some of this beauty, both by her dramatic rendition of Clara’s life, and by a performance of some of the most loved music of these two composers.

The evening will take place in an intimate setting of a 19th century salon with a light dinner served. It will include a cake modeled after the famous Torte à la Wieck created specially for Clara in the 1830s in Vienna. Please buy your tickets in advance as seating will be limited to 40 people and tickets will not be sold at the door. Send your request to mondartmanagement@gmail.com by March 1, 2017.  Tickets are $35.00

Dr. Syrovatkova began her professional music studies at the Prague Conservatory in her native Czech Republic.  Her success at home opened doors to further studies in the United States, where she received Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees summa cum laude from the University of Maryland and the University of Texas at Austin.  She has —performed and taught widely around the world.
