The Snowmass Village Cemetery aka Hidden Valley Cemetery
Snowmass Chapel owns and manages the only cemetery in Snowmass Village. The cemetery is off Highline Road, just beyond the electrical substation. It is maintained in its natural state – simple and peaceful.
The Snowmass Land Company gifted the 12.8 acre parcel where the cemetery is located to the Town of Snowmass Village. After considering other uses for the land, the Town Council decided to establish a cemetery. At that time, the closest cemetery to Snowmass Village was the Red Butte Cemetery in Aspen and the Town Council thought there should be a town cemetery. Once it was decided that the land would be used as a cemetery, the Town Council decided that it would be more appropriate that the cemetery be established and operated by the Chapel.
In October of 1990, Snowmass Village sold the Snowmass Village Cemetery to the Chapel for ten dollars. The first burial took place on June 14, 1991 following the sudden death of an infant. The general sale of grave sites began after that burial.
